Simple - just measure from your needle to where you want the guide. Most sewists use a ruler or seam gauge to measure the exact distance (1/4", 1/2", 5/8", whatever your pattern calls for), then snap the guide down at that mark. The edge of your fabric will run along the guide as you sew. Want to double-check? Sew a test seam on scrap fabric first - if it's off, just slide the guide and re-position. 1. Turn off your sewing machine.
